BA-MEN Loves Tecopa Hot Springs!

I've been meaning to create this page for sometime, so here goes...  And BTW, some of the content a page or so down is not safe for work, so you've been warned!

Tecopa Hot Springs, located in Tecopa, CA, in the Southeast corner of Death Valley, but outside D.V. National Park, is a great place to go and get away for a few days or as long as you care to stay!

You can pretty much literally soak your cares away here, along with many aches & pains as well, as it's a much touted cure (or at least easement) of Arthritis, Gout, and many other such issues.

It's actually the second best known hot spring in the world after Baden-Baden, Germany!

And by the way, just like Baden-Baden, there is no clothing or hair (or soap, etc) allowed in the pools - but that's OK, as everyone's nude and of the same gender if you're in one of the shared pools, and no one cares if you don't look like a magazine cover - virtually none of us look like that anyway!

Keep in mind as well that you want to keep your head above water even if you're bald, as there can be amoebas in the water, so don't let it get in your nose and avoid swallowing it.

Tecopa's waters are mineral rich, but doesn't have a high sulfur content, so it doesn't smell.  Another reason to avoid swallowing the water is that it is rather high in some minerals & elements, some being rather unhealthy in large quantities or if your health is compromised.

It does seem to leave your skin feeling rather velvety after soaking in it a while, and I personally don't recommend using bar soap in it, as it never seems to wash off for me.

It's a great place to unwind in many other ways, as there's no cellular access out there (AT&T & Verizon both show it on the map, but it doesn't work there, as least as of Spring 2016), no TV, & no radio - satellite TV, radio, & internet do work, if you really need the contact, as well as some places out there have Internet, like the office & lobby areas of some resorts, as well as the cafe at Delight's Hot Springs Resort.  Some of these even have a phone you can use, like Delight's, if you're a resort guest.

If you're roughing it or have your own RV, there's a number of places that have RV spaces, as well as tent space - these include "Tecopa Hot Springs Resort & Campground" (the former county-run place, now run by a 3rd party for the county) & Delight's Hot Springs Resort.

It's been reported that the former county-run baths are open 24 hours again, except for cleaning, but Delight's is one of the places that keeps at least 1 hot spring pool open 24 hours, 7 days, while closing the other 3 for cleaning - the latter pool gets cleaned later on once other pools are back open.

At the street, Delight's looks a bit like this, only some of the empty space on the right is now the Delight's Cafe:

Delight's pools are private, with locks on the doors, and a few other places have that, though I understand it's often for a per-hour fee.  The main former county-run baths, as well as some others, are open to all members of the same gender at all times, with 1 house for men & 1 for women.  Each house there has 2 pools, with the water temperature varying from the hottest where it enters, cooling by the time it spills into the second pool, and then further yet before it goes into the drain.

The outside is something like this, from a few years back:

A few shots from around Delight's are next, starting with a view of the hot spring pool rooms, with #1 on the left, #2 in the center, #3 is around the corner with a couple of steps, and #4 is on the right with the wall in front, all being open air, but have mesh above to keep out the birds & bugs that would otherwise enter:

And our favorite cabin, #8:

Inside the men's side of the former county pools, the hottest of 2 pools is:

Now, over at Delight's, here's some of the pool shots we took in 2014:

That's all folks!
